Welcome to Cloud 9 Photography Scenic and Wildlife Galleries! The images in this Gallery were captured during the Annual Buffalo Roundup in Custer State Park, South Dakota. My home state is South Dakota, and ever since I first heard about the roundup, I have wanted to see this event. I was finally able to attend this year, and had the privilege to witness the roundup with media credentials. The park staff gave the media a exclusive tour of the herd the day before the roundup, had a dedicated area for media photographers during the roundup, and let us get right in the corrals for the culling and branding. There were over 1200 animals in the herd. This was a fantastic opportunity to capture some great images of this beautiful animal! I would like to say that after spending several days observing and photographing this powerful, agile and athletic animal, I am so glad they did not go extinct! The park staff uses this roundup to cull animals from the herd. These animals are then sold to start and maintain other herds around the country. Thanks to the hard work by the dedicated park staff, the herds are in good health, and the future for this great creature is strong. We hope you enjoy viewing the images of this beautiful animal!
